Nick Chowdhury

Hello, I am happy to be nominated to serve our tribe. About me, I was born and raised in the Comox Valley, the unceded territory of the K’omoks First Nation. My mother is Alice Chowdhury (Glendale), our family ties reach back to many families in the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, Gwasala and Naxwaxda’xw tribes and probably more that I cannot recall or list here!

I was fortunate to spend time visiting and working with my late grandparents Bill & Anne Glendale. This helped me learn about our territory and understand what makes being Da’naxda’xw/Awaetlala something special. I visited and worked at the village on Harbledown Island for years and went with family for many years up to the head of Knight Inlet for the oolichan run in the spring.

I have worked in retail sales from clothing to electronics and cars. I enjoy doing some volunteer work for local non-profit organizations like the Community Health Networks and others. I also worked in tourism both locally on Mt Washington and in our territory at Knight Inlet Lodge. The combination of working in our territory, for our Band Administration, and for businesses out here in communities like the Comox Valley and others has given me a blend of perspective that is very helpful in what I do these days. Since the COVID pandemic I have my own business ‘wi’la’mola Consulting, through this company I offer cultural workshops, governance work, and facilitation services – keeping the list short. I can share more with anyone who would like to know more about my company.

Looking back, I have engaged/worked with many tribes up and down the coast, many indigenous and non-indigenous organizations, as well as Municipal, Regional District, Provincial and Federal Government partners. This mix of experiences adds a deep insight into the perspective that I have, being off-reserve and yet working closely with many of our tribes people, staff, and leadership.

If I were to serve on our Elected Council, I would work to move our tribe forward, in collaboration, with good communication and accountability – just a few of the many good things I experienced and learned working with other tribes and organizations over the past 15 years.

I would very much appreciate your vote and support to help form the next Elected Council.

Gilakas’la and Thank you,
Nick Chowdhury
